Power has been restored to all UC Santa Cruz buildings that were affected by an outage that began Tuesday evening and continued into this morning. At this time, it appears the outage was the result of problems with PG&E’s off-campus infrastructure.
Buildings receiving power from the A1 feeder will remain on the Cogen until 5 p.m. at which time PG&E will restore power to the feeder.
UC Santa Cruz specialists are continuing to work with PG&E to ensure the stability of our electrical service.
The campus is open for normal business operations. Dining halls will return to regular operations by 2:00pm. Some locations may have limited offerings due to the impact of the power outages. Retail locations are open except Slug Stop and Global Village Cafe.

A power outage continues to impact most areas of the UC Santa Cruz residential campus. There is no estimate at this time from PG&E when power will be restored. There may be intermittent wireless connectivity issues affecting some users. ITS is working on a solution with the vendor.
The campus’ cogeneration power plan is currently providing power to:
- Baskin Engineering
- Student Health Center
- Earth and Marine Science
- Natural Sciences 2 / Interdisciplinary Sciences Building / Center for Adaptive Optics
- Sinsheimer Labs
- Science and Engineering Library
- Thimann Labs
- Communications Building
- Other buildings may be on Standby/Emergency generator power.
Family Student Housing, Cardiff Terrace, Hagar Court, Lower Campus, and the Arboretum currently have power, as does the Westside Research Park, and the Coastal Science Campus. The Scotts Valley Center also remains unaffected.
Classrooms are without network services. Instructors are asked to use their best judgment to decide how to proceed with classes today and to communicate with their students about their instructional plans.
Employees should discuss with their manager any questions or concerns about being able to work as planned. Managers are encouraged to be flexible with employees.
The College Nine/John R. Lewis Dining Hall and Porter Dining Hall will open with regular service at 7 a.m.. The Rachel Carson/Oakes Dining Hall, Cowell, and Crown are offering limited continental breakfast until 9:30 a.m. All other UCSC Dining locations are closed.
