Web: Templates

New templates currently available in WCMS

UCSC has launched a new suite of web templates as part of the campus's Web Content Management System (WCMS) project.

The new pages — currently available only within the WCMS project — showcase campus strengths while providing a structure (information architecture) that supports the delivery of consistent, easy-to-access information for users.

If you are considering a redesign of your site, please consider waiting for the new service to become available to more campus units. The project is currently in its pilot phase, with a small number of campus partners participating. If you have questions about the schedule for extending the WCMS service to more campus units, please see a more detailed WCMS FAQ. You may also fill out our Become a Partner form to let us know you’re interested in migrating.

If you interested in developing your site outside the WCMS

At the request of the campus's Web Steering Committee, campus users are not currently permitted to create UCSC sites outside of the WCMS in a manner that tries to duplicate or mimic the template designs that are available within the WCMS. The campus's Communications & Marketing office will be developing non-WCMS HTML templates early in Winter Quarter 2011. In order to ensure look-and-feel consistency, these templates will be developed around a single central style sheet.

You are advised to contact UR Web Team in the campus's Communications & Marketing office for a precise timetable for these HTML templates.

When these templates become available, their implementation outside of the WCMS system must be done in consultation with Communications & Marketing to ensure that the web sites created comply with the design and information architecture of sites created within the WCMS. At the request of the campus's Web Steering Committee, such sites cannot be published or go live prior to approval by web developers in Communications & Marketing.
