UCSC & Federal Stimulus Funding Available
The passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides an
unprecedented opportunity to obtain two-year awards of funds from federal
agencies to help stimulate the economy. A web page has been developed to
assist members of the UC Santa Cruz community as they explore the
opportunities for funding that are available as a result of the stimulus
bill. http://planning.ucsc.edu/osp/stimulus/
NSF New Rules on Open Skies/Fly American
As of January 5, 2009 the National Science Foundation has revised the travel section of its "Grant General Conditions"
to incorporate revised circumstances under which use of a foreign-flag air carrier is permissible. Two conditions have to
be present to fly a foreign flag-carrier using NSF grant funds. First, the foreign flag-carrier's country has to have any
"Open Skies" Agreement with the United States. Presently all 27 countries of the European Union, Switzerland and
Australia have entered into " Open Skies" Agreements with the United States.
Second, there cannot be in existence a city pair agreement for the specific origin and destination. "City pair agreements"
are part of the U. S. General Services Administration (GSR) program that provides for lower fares to federal employees
when traveling on official business. GSA maintains a Web site to look up city pair agreements.
