Cowell College and the Language Program at UCSC will present "An Evening of World Music" at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, in the Cowell College Dining Hall. There is no admission charge. This eclectic program will feature works that represent some dozen cultures, ranging from Brazil to Thailand, from Greece and Turkey to Mexico and Germany, and will be performed by students and staff of UCSC, offering works for piano, guitar, accordion, bouzouki, Peruvian harp, and other instruments. Composers ranging from Chopin and Rossini to Joplin and Uematsu will be represented. The event will also feature vocal excerpts from opera, as well as folk, ragtime, jazz, pop, and classical music. A ballet piece performed by one of our Russian students will complete the program. The World Music Evening marks the third in a series performed by students of Cowell, the Language Program, music majors, and other talented UCSC participants. The public is cordially invited to attend this free performance. There is a parking fee of $2 for the concert. For further information, contact Miriam Ellis.
