
UC Strike: April 14, 2005
UC Santa Cruz has prepared this page in an effort to keep members of the campus community informed about instruction, transportation, and other aspects of the campus operation impacted by the strike.

Stay informed:
In addition to updating this page as information warrants, the Public
Affairs Office will be recording strike-day information
on the campus's communications hotline, 459-INFO. Information
will also be relayed on a regular basis
to KZSC Radio (88.1 FM) for broadcast.

NEWS UPDATE:
6:00 p.m., Thursday: Picketers
continue to assemble at the main entrance to the campus. The main and
west gates are open to drivers traveling in both
directions. Please drive very safely. Shuttle service is
available throughout the day on campus.
Updated information will also be recorded on the campus's information hotline, 459-INFO, and relayed periodically to KZSC Radio (88.1 FM) for broadcast. This page will also be updated throughout the day or as changing circumstances warrant.

Messages from UCSC's administration:
Chancellor Denton calls upon members of the campus community to
"conduct themselves in a peaceful, respectful and orderly manner" during
the strike.
Interim Provost Kliger's message to the campus includes expectations that offices be kept open, classes be taught, and the campus provide normal services.
Transportation affected by strike:
Transportation & Parking Services has prepared a web site
that provides information on Metro service during a strike and
accommodations that are being made to adjust the campus's own shuttle
system.
Dining services operation:
Dining services on Thursday will be consolidated. Dining
halls at the following two locations will be open from
7:30 in the morning to 8 in the evening: Oakes-Eight and Nine-Ten.
On Thursday, the dining halls will accept only meal cards
and Flexi-Dollars. This schedule is subject to change; please check back.

Other campus services:
The Granary and Infant Toddler Center will be closed; children from
all child care centers who have preregistered will be
cared for at the Children's Center and School-Age Program facility at
Family Student Housing from 8 to 5...the Health Center will be open...Student
Affairs offices in Hahn will be open (offices in the Cook House will be
closed)...and the bookstore will be open.

UCOP Labor Relations has posted a web site providing an overview of the situation and a description of employee
responsibilities should a
strike occur. UCOP has also posted a
web page that includes complete information regarding ongoing negotiations.
