UC Regents Visit: October 18-19, 2006

UC Santa Cruz has prepared this page in an effort to keep members of the campus community informed about the visit to the campus in October by several members of the UC Board of Regents .

Public Comments

As part of their visit to UCSC, the Regents have planned a public-comment period for each of the two days of their visit:

• Oct. 18: from 3:45 to 4:05 p.m. in the new Humanities Lecture Hall.

• Oct. 19: from 9:15 to 9:35 a.m. in the Music Center Recital Hall.

Speakers who wish to address the group are asked to notify the Regents in advance of their visit. For more information about the public-comment periods, contact Anne Shaw, acting secretary of the Regents, at (510) 987-9220.

News Update

At times yesterday afternoon, picketers gathered at the main entrance to campus and in the Quarry Plaza area. At 7:15 a.m. today, there were no protesters at those intersections; but people driving vehicles through these areas are still advised to drive slowly and very carefully. Bus and campus shuttle service are planned throughout the day.

In addition to updating this page as information warrants, the Public Affairs Office will be providing current information on the Regents visit to the campus community via UCSC's communications hotline, 459-INFO.

About the Visit

For the first time since 2002, the campus is hosting members of the UC Board of Regents on October 18-19 for two days of tours, talks, and hands-on activities.

The Regents make three informational visits each year to campuses within the UC system. The visit will give UCSC an opportunity to describe recent achievements and new facilities, share plans for the future, and introduce key leaders, including Acting Chancellor George Blumenthal. In addition, comment periods are planned to give the public an opportunity to share views with the visiting Regents.

For more information about the visit, please see a Currents Online article about the two days or contact UCSC's Office of Special Events at (831) 459-5003.
