Administrative MessageNovember 2, 2009To: UC Santa Cruz Staff and Faculty From: Staff Advisory Board and Academic Senate Re: UCSC 2010 United Way Campaign: November 2–13We know these are difficult times. But in the next few weeks we have an extraordinary opportunity to help those in our community who are less fortunate than us. Last year, money donated to the United Way’s Community Investment Fund helped support programs that served over 56,000 people — one in five county residents. Communities are interconnected, and when we can help a neighbor, co-worker, or friend, our whole community is strengthened. Just $1 a week can provide job-training skills for a developmentally disabled person, or $2 a week teaches two students from abusive backgrounds violence prevention so they can break the pattern of abuse. No donation is too small to make a difference in your community! This year the United Way of Santa Cruz County has refocused its community investment goals on three building blocks:
And UCSC's 2010 United Way Campaign has a new look. In the spirit of supporting campus sustainability goals we are promoting this year’s campaign in a new way. This email contains links to your pledge form, a United Way brochure listing the many agencies you can support with your donation, and an FAQ sheet about the United Way of Santa Cruz County. Following this email, you will be receiving a donation envelope in your campus mailbox for your contribution. We hope you will join us in supporting United Way of Santa Cruz County and the agencies they support. Remember: everyone needs to fill out a new pledge form each year — even if you are happy with your existing donation. And don’t forget how easy it is to make a monthly donation using the payroll deduction option. Your donation will begin the pay period of January 2010. Please send your pledge form in the envelope you will find in your campus mailbox by November 30, 2009. If you have any questions about United Way please visit:
