Re: UCSC Spring 2000 Transportation Survey
Beginning Monday, May 15, Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) will conduct
UCSC's Spring 2000 Transporation Survey. Designed to assess the travel patterns and
habits of faculty, staff and students, TAPS will use the survey results to help plan
new transportation programs and improvements to better accommodate the needs of the
campus community.
Moreover, the survey will provide a "baseline" for comparision of future
traffic conditions--and a means of measuring the success of UCSC's various Travel
Demand Management (TDM) programs. The ten-question survey asks respondents to describe
their campus commute trips for each day of the previous week, May 8 through May 12.
TAPS invites all students, staff and faculty to respond to the survey by visiting the TAPS Home Page at http://www2.ucsc.edu/taps/.
Please share this information with staff, faculty and students associated with your
campus unit. If you know of campus employees or students without Internet access,
they may call TAPS at x9-2190 to receive a printed copy of the survey, which can
then be returned to TAPS when completed.
As an incentive, respondents who complete the survey by May 19th and provide an
email address or phone number are eligible to win one of five $100 cash prizes, to
be awarded by a random drawing by June 1.
This is TAPS' first online survey, a step that promises to save time and resources
while potentially increasing participation. If successful, TAPS plans to conduct
several more online surveys during 2000 to address other specific transportation
and parking issues. In addition,TAPS will be conducting a series of four focus group
discussions concerning campus transportation issues on May 24 and 25. Interested
students, faculty and staff are invited to contact Teresa Buika at
tabuika@cats.ucsc.edu or ext. 9-3826 for more information.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this important campus survey. Please
share this message with your colleages and friends throughout the campus.
Sincerely,
Wes Scott
Director, Transportation and Parking Services.
