September 10, 1999 To: Campus Community Re: Meredith Michaels chosen as new associate vice chancellor of
Planning and Budget It gives me great pleasure to announce that Meredith Michaels has accepted our offer to join UC Santa Cruz as the new Associate Vice Chancellor of Planning and Budget. She comes to us from the UC Office of the President where she has held the position of Director of the Budget, Internal Coordination since 1995. Meredith emerged as the top candidate from a national search that afforded an extremely impressive pool of applicants. In her 14 years with the University, Meredith has held a number of positions providing her with experience in a broad array of higher education issues, including strategic planning, operating and capital planning and budgeting, as well as governmental relations and legislative analysis. Her background will provide the campus with important leadership as we continue to accommodate student growth, expand our research activities, and pursue other important campus and University objectives. The position of Associate Vice Chancellor of Planning and Budget was created upon the retirement of Associate Chancellor Jensen and reports to me. Karen Eckert has filled this role on an interim basis since Dick's retirement, and I would like you to join me in thanking her for her commendable performance in that capacity. The responsibilities of the Associate Vice Chancellor include financial planning and budgetary operations, facilities planning and capital budgets, and institutional information and analysis. More specifically, the Associate Vice Chancellor supports academic planning, enrollment management, program reviews; provides guidance in the formulation of academic plans and staffing proposals; coordinates the budget process and maintains budget and expenditure information; analyzes patterns and trends in instruction, research, public service, and academic support services; and prepares and publishes campus statistical reports. Meredith will be visiting the campus several times prior to officially beginning her new position on Nov 1, and many of you will have the opportunity to meet with her then. Please join me in welcoming our new colleague and her family to UC Santa Cruz. |
