Re: Power Shutdown 12/28/99

On Tuesday, December 28, 1999, the Physical Plant is planning to shut down power on campus. The purpose is to complete fine-tuning the 21KV electrical sub station that was installed over the Labor Day weekend. The length of the shutdown will be approximately twelve hours, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Senior Engineer Adam Bayer is the project manager and will oversee the work. The Cogeneration Plant will be on-line powering most of the campus, and emergency power generators will also be running.

Buildings that will have no power on December 28 include Classroom Unit I, the East Field House, the Health Center, Farm & Aroecology, Theater Arts, Baskin Visual Arts, and Kerr Hall. "Spikes" (surges) or "sags" in electrical power are always a possibility; therefore, Physical Plant asks that you power down as much equipment as possible prior to the shutdown. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Senior Superintendentof Building & Utility Services, Jim West, at 9-2994 (jawest @cats.ucsc.edu), or Adam Bayer, at 9-4237 (aebayer@cats.ucsc.edu).

James Hagler, Director, Physical Plant
