September 1, 1999 To: Campus Community From: Communications and Technology Services Re: Labor Day weekend power outage There will be a campus electrical shutdown over Labor Day weekend. It is anticipated that the Communications building will continue with uninterrupted power through Co-Gen; however, there is a possibility that power to email, web, and other critical servers will be interrupted during this period. If power to the Communications Building is interrupted during the shutdown, in spite of efforts to prevent it, beginning Tuesday morning, September 7, the CATS Information Resource Center will track the status of the following services as they come back on-line. FIS/Banner PPS SIS NES and NESweb Data Warehouse Remote Access (CATS modem pools and ISSP) Email (@cats.ucsc.edu addresses only) Web (both www.ucsc.edu and www2.ucsc.edu) Athena compute servers (si, am, ese, angus, buddy, rufus, sasha, meow) UCSC internal network and Internet connection The IRC will communicate this information via the system status message at 459-HELP and also via the CATS News web page. Remember, as with all electrical power interuptions, turn off and UNPLUG all computers and peripherals such as printers and scanners.
