Re: Second Harvest Food Bank success
On behalf of the 1999 UCSC Second Harvest Holiday Food Drive Committee and the Second
Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties we want to thank you for
your overwhelming generosity and support of the 1999 Food Drive.
UCSC staff, faculty, and students collected 22,851 pounds of food (which included
an amount of pounds equivalent to the monetary donations) for the Second Harvest
Food Bank. In 1998 UCSC collected 2,534 lbs. UCSC's 1999 contribution is more than
a 900 percent increase over the previous year.
Note: Every dollar that is contributed to the Second Harvest Food Bank allows Second
Harvest to obtain and purchase 10 pounds of food. For Food Drive award purposes,
each dollar is multiplied by three. That figure is then added to the actual pounds
of food collected to arrive at a total amount.
The final totals include:
Pounds of food donated: 5,544
Money donated: $5,769 equivalent to 17,307 pounds ($5,769 x 3)
Total pounds: 22,851 (5,544 + 17,307)
In addition to thanking the campus community, special gratitude to the following
individuals and units:
Committee members: Manuel Grijalva and John Holloway.
Campus Mail Services staff who were the essential and hard-working link for success.

WE SEEK YOUR SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR:
We provided options for the campus community to make food and monetary donations
as easy as possible: (e.g. money donations sent to Mail Services, drop-off location
at West entrance, etc.)
If you have any suggestions about how we can improve upon this year's drive for next
year, please share your ideas with us. We welcome your feedback! Email: Sheila Gottehrer:
ombdskg@cats.ucsc.edu or call: 9-4606 with you comments.
Again, thank you for making this event such a success. You helped make a difference.
