Administrative Message November 2, 2005 To: Campus Community From: Wes Scott, Director, Transportation and Parking Services Re: Metro bus service resumes ThursdayTAPS shares the relief of the entire UCSC community that Santa Cruz Metro bus service will once again be transporting students, faculty, and staff to their destinations beginning Thursday, November 3. And we are also pleased to announce that the Transit District Board voted today to extend a week of free bus rides to all of its university riders. This is being offered as a goodwill gesture to riders inconvenienced by the extended transit strike of the last month. The Transit District Board will offer free transit service to all users of its system during its first week of post-strike service. The dates during which service will be free of charge are Thursday, November 3, through Wednesday, November 9. In UCSC's case, there will be no billings to the campus transit budget for UCSC-affiliated bus rides taken during the designated week. While the benefit to UCSC students may not be immediately apparent, as it will be to a working commuter who gets to board a bus without putting $1.50 into the fare box, the Student Transit Fee account will not be billed for ridership during this period of time.
