Administrative Message October 27, 2004 To: Campus Community From: Thomas Vani, Vice Chancellor - Business and Administrative Services (BAS) Re: BAS merges some units into University Business ServicesFollowing Director Paul Molfino’s retirement in April of 2003, Lisa Rose, Director of Materiel Management, was asked to temporarily assume responsibility for the Imaging, Printing, Mail, and Temporary Services (IPMTS) Unit. While the reporting lines changed, Materiel Management and IPMTS continued to operate largely as independent groups. Business and Administrative Services is happy to announce the combined units have officially been renamed University Business Services (UBS) and Director Rose has been appointed to head the unit on a permanent basis. You will immediately begin to see references to UBS in campus communications and the campus directory. The creation of UBS is more than a simple name change as it represents a significant programmatic reorganization and a new beginning for these units. In addition to continuing to provide the services that you are familiar with, over the next few months, UBS will be actively engaged in several transformation projects aimed at improving customer service and access, better integrating and streamlining core operations, reorganizing around a formalized strategic plan, and implementing key enabling technologies. I hope that you will join me in recognizing the newly formed University Business Services Unit, and in applauding Director Rose and her colleagues at UBS for their unending commitment to the highest standards of quality in programs and services that the UBS units provide to the UCSC campus community. At this time the UBS reorganization does not require physical location changes. For now, you may continue to contact staff at the same locations, web sites, phone numbers, and email addresses. If you have any questions about the reorganization, please contact Michelle Santos at 459-4871, or Bev Badagliacca at 459-4969.
