February 16, 2005

To: UCSC Faculty and Staff

From: Larry Merkley, Vice Provost, Information Technology

Re: Reorganization of IT Services - CATS Name Change

Dear Colleagues:

This announcement is a follow-up to the message I sent to the campus on July 7, 2004, regarding the reorganization of IT Services. http://its.ucsc.edu/newsletter/full_story.php?id=88

Now that we have completed the first phase of the reorganization (hiring new senior directors), we are ready to complete the dissolution of Communications and Technology Services (CATS) as a campus entity. Effective February 18, 2005, CATS becomes Information Technology Services (ITS). In addition to CATS, the Chancellor's Office Administrative Systems and Technology (COAST), Media Services, and Instructional Computing staff will officially be integrated into ITS also effective 2/18. Among other changes, the new mail stop replacing CATS will be ITS.

Organization charts for ITS, as of 2/18 are available online http://its.ucsc.edu/about_us/org_chart.php. The charts will be updated frequently to reflect changes resulting from the transformation process.

As the transformation process continues, we will work together to maintain essential client-based services for the campus even while new centrally provided services are established.

I want to thank you again for your patience and assistance during this transition. If you have questions about the CATS entity or name change, please contact Lisa Bono, ITS Communication Coordinator, at lbono@ucsc.edu.

Sincerely,

Larry Merkley, Vice Provost
