Re: Community Day of Learning
I would like to extend a special invitation to all staff and faculty to participate in UCSC's first Community Day of Learning on Thursday, October 24, 2002. This day is being set aside for learning, increasing awareness, and staying current on topics relevant to our Campus community. The theme for the event is Safety & Wellness training, a critical topic for the UCSC Community at large, especially in light of recent current events.
With this Day of Learning, I am reaffirming the University's commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. We can achieve this by accepting responsibility for our own safety and for the safety and well being of others. Educating yourself about the safety and wellness programs available at UCSC is the first step. I encourage you all to take advantage of this opportunity to explore these resources.
The Day of Learning will take place on Thursday, October 24 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Bay Tree Conference Center and Quarry Plaza. Classes on safety and wellness will be presented from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with informational booths set up from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the plaza outside the bookstore. This Day is a collaboration of UCSC departments including CATS, Fire and Police, OPERS, Risk Management, Staff Human Resources, TAPS, and Environmental Health and Safety. You will have the chance to learn about Ergonomics, Office Stretching, Stress Reduction, Personal Safety and more!
I am encouraging supervisors to provide their staff up to 2 hours of release time to attend these training classes as workloads and staffing levels allow. The schedule of events and enrollment will be available online through the BAS Events Manager at http://bas.ucsc.edu/events/. Please make sure that you register on-line for the classes as they are expected to fill rapidly.
