Please read this message for information about how to prepare for such travel, and what to do upon your return.

LATEST SARS INFORMATION
The latest information on areas with current community transmission of SARS can be found at www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars/travel.htm

AREAS AFFECTED BY TRAVEL ADVISORIES AND ALERTS
As of May 27, 2003, those areas with travel advisories are Taiwan and the People's Republic of China, including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Travel alerts remain in effect for Singapore and Toronto. However, all persons planning international travel should recognize that the world situation concerning SARS is changing rapidly and should stay informed daily about the current travel alerts and advisories to areas with SARS.

PREPARING FOR TRAVEL TO SARS AREAS
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) provides specific information for people traveling to areas with SARS regarding how to prepare for travel, and what health measures to take while traveling and on your return. See www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars/travel_advice.htm

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RETURNING FROM TRAVEL TO SARS AREAS
In compliance with CDC and UC guidelines, before returning to campus or other university activities, faculty, staff, and students returning from areas with SARS are requested to contact Campus Provost Simpson's office by sending email to mchapin@ucsc.edu At that time you will be provided with the latest information on CDC and campus guidelines for returning travelers. Although at this time people returning from areas with SARS need not limit their activities, they should adhere to CDC guidelines for travelers arriving in the U.S. from SARS areas, monitoring their health closely for a period of 10 days to check for the development of fever or respiratory symptoms as described at www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars/business_guidelines.htm

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ONLINE
