Re: Invitation to second biannual UC Santa Cruz Foundation Forum

Chancellor M.R.C. Greenwood and the UC Santa Cruz Foundation Board of Trustees invite the campus community to attend the second biannual UC Santa Cruz Foundation Forum:

"Life: A Work in Progress." A slide lecture based on renowned nature photographer Frans Lanting's upcoming book on the exploration of evolutionary patterns in nature.

Wednesday, June 4, 4:00 p.m. Colleges Nine and Ten Multipurpose Room.

Frans Lanting, hailed as one of the great nature photographers of our time, portrays wild creatures as ambassadors for the preservation of complete ecosystems. The former director of photography of the National Geographic Society wrote, "As a chronicler of natural history today, Frans Lanting is a singular extraordinary talent. He has the mind of a scientist, the heart of a hunter, and the eyes of a poet." Not surprisingly, Lanting's work has appeared in virtually every major magazine in the world including National Geographic, Life, Audubon, Stern, Figaro, and GEO. Exhibits featuring his photographs have appeared at major museums in Paris, Milan, Tokyo, New York, and Amsterdam.

There will be a FACULTY PANEL DISCUSSION immediately following:

An Interdisciplinary Look at Evolution

Moderator: Professor John Thompson, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology
Panelists: Professor David Deamer, Biochemistry; Professor Lynda Goff, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology; Professor Paul Koch, Earth Sciences; Professor Peter Raimondi, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

The Foundation Forum is a new biannual lecture series bringing together UCSC Foundation Trustees, faculty, and students to share engaging speakers and discussions on current subjects affecting their common interests and goals.
