Re: Chancellor's Message on Breaking News
Dear Colleagues:
This morning, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office announced an indictment against a former UC Santa Cruz student. As you are likely to learn from news reports as early as this evening, Joanne DeLaCruz, a 24-year old San Leandro resident, has been arraigned on a charge of voluntary manslaughter. The alleged crime occurred in the spring of 1996, while she was a student here. The report of this alleged crime came to the attention of the UCSC Police approximately one year ago, and an extensive investigation since then has led to this arrest.
