Re: New VC for Research

Dear Campus Colleagues:

We are very pleased to announce that Robert C. Miller, Jr., who has been serving as Vice Provost at the University of Washington, has accepted the
position of Vice Chancellor for Research at UCSC. Dr. Miller, identified from an excellent field of nominees and applicants in a national search
conducted over this past year, will assume his position at UCSC on September 15.

Dr. Miller brings to this position extensive experience, having served not only as Vice Provost for Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer at
UW, but as Vice President of Research at the University of British Columbia before that.

We would also like to acknowledge the work of Professor Emeritus Burney J. Le Boeuf, who served as interim Vice Chancellor for Research while the national search was conducted. Dr. Le Boeuf has provided outstanding leadership in the area of research administration and planning since accepting that appointment last fall.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Miller to our campus and to this important position. For additional information about his appointment, please see the linked story, in Currents Online:
