January 11, 2002 To: Campus Community From: Public Information Office Re: Sinsheimer firePlease read this message which contains new information. Early this morning, campus firefighters responded to a fire on the fourth floor of Sinsheimer Laboratories that broke out in a biology lab. Campus and other local fire crews are currently on the scene, and the fire has been contained to the southwest corner of the fourth floor of Sinsheimer Laboratories. In addition to Sinsheimer, the following buildings are closed as a precaution, and classes are not taking place in these buildings: Thimann Labs, Thimann Lecture Hall, and Kerr Hall. Staff with offices in the closed buildings have been redirected to the Barn Theater. The Science and Engineering Library and the Core West Parking Structure are also closed. As of 11 a.m., classes are continuing in other Science Hill buildings, including Earth and Marine Sciences, Natural Science II, and Baskin Engineering. There are no reports of any injuries. Hazardous materials investigators are on the scene and will be assessing the situation. For updated information, please call 459-INFO.
