Re: Banana Slug Spring Fair
Dear Colleagues:
Saturday's Banana Slug Spring Fair was our largest ever--and a sparkling success.
The sunny April weather provided a perfect backdrop for the broad array of academic,
informational, and social offerings that make UCSC an outstanding institution and
nurturing home for teaching and learning.
Approximately 8,000 prospective students and their parents enjoyed one-to-one interactions
with faculty, students, and staff at the academic-advising and student-support fairs,
and at the student "Block Party." At each of our nine colleges, our guests
were treated to tours led by students who delighted all with their unique enthusiasm
for college life.
The campus was also revisited by approximately 1,000 alumni, who attended reunion,
academic, and student-life events. Two colleges and two departments celebrated anniversaries
and held reunions where alumni, current students, and prospective students were able
to join together in an exchange of perspectives and values, illustrating how a lifelong
connection can grow from the interactions we begin with prospective students.
I want to thank the many faculty, staff, students, and alumni whose volunteer efforts
were instrumental in making this year's Banana Slug Spring Fair such a success.
