Kerr Hall protest ends; cleanup may take days

Kerr Hall lobby found littered with refuse.

Early Sunday morning, the occupation of Kerr Hall by students and others that began Thursday ended peacefully when approximately 70 individuals inside the building at that time left voluntarily. Their departure followed a demand from UC police that they vacate the premises or face arrest for unlawful assembly and trespass.

Tim Galarneau

Tim Galarneau:
As a student, Tim Galarneau (College Eight, psychology and community studies, '05) helped lead a successful push for food sustainability and waste reduction on campus.

Today he works full time as a food systems education and research program specialist at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems and helps coordinate a campus working group on sustainability, energy, and waste issues.

Danny Hess:
San Francisco surfboard maker Danny Hess (Kresge, art, '98) has merged his passions for woodworking and surfing.

By synthesizing the woodworking techniques of cabinetmakers and boat builders with the standard foam-and-fiberglass approach of surfboard construction, Hess creates surfboards that push the boundaries of environmental sustainability, aesthetic beauty, and speed generation--and he's making a "decent living."
