Be a part of the sport that has defined much of the Santa Cruz culture since the turn of the century. Learn to paddle, catch waves, stand up, and turn. You will also learn the etiquette of surfing, how to read surf conditions and judge safe entry and exit points. This class will meet one day a week for four weeks and will cover all the basics of surfing. We'll travel to various surf spots from Cowell's in Santa Cruz to Rio and Manresa in Aptos. You will get great tips and coaching from our experienced surfing staff, and gain the confidence to get out on the waves. First day of class is held at the ocean-bring a swim suit to wear under wetsuit. PREREQUISITE: Proficient swimming skills are required. Previous ocean or surfing experience is strongly recommended. Each student must pass a swim assessment in the ocean on the first day of class in order to be allowed to continue. First day of class, Wed. Nov. 4 meet at 7:15am at the surf locker at East Fieldhouse.
