In this class you will be taught first-position guitar chords, right-hand rhythm patterns, how to read chord charts, the basics of guitar construction and care, simply riffs, major and minor chords, bass lines, scales, and if time and development allows, barre chords and alternate positions/voicings. Students provide their own guitar. If you don't own one you can rent at Sylvan Music. Instructor Scott Cooper has been a working musician for over 20 years. He has worked with members of Galactic, the Doobie Brothers, Jefferson Starship and many others. He currently runs a booking agency representing a number of Bay Area bands/musicians, in addition to gigging with four different bands himself. In this class, Scott will use Beatles songs as vehicles to teach simple guitar chords and riffs, as well as any songs students bring in to learn. Students should bring an electronic tuner and acoustic guitar.
