More than 100 local business leaders and officials from Santa Cruz and UCSC gathered November 1 to dedicate the new University Town Center (UTC). The five-story 86,000-square-foot building is located in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz and will provide space for UCSC programs as well as private retailers and other businesses. The principal university occupants are UCSC Extension and the UTC Residential Office (a part of UCSC's Housing, Dining and Child Care Services program). Participating in the ribbon cutting of the building are (l-r) Barry Swenson, President of Barry Swenson Builder, which constructed and co-owns the new building; Santa Cruz City Mayor Katherine Beiers; Chancellor Greenwood; and Charles Canfield, president of the Santa Cruz Seaside Company, which co-owns the building.
