By Edward Reynolds
Education Abroad Program

UC faculty are invited to apply for study center directorship positions in UC's Education Abroad Program.

At each site, the director is the administrator of the center, assures harmonious relations with UC's partner universities, facilitates exchange provisions of agreements, provides academic and general counseling for enrolled UC students, implements UC academic policy, and serves as instructor of record for all academic work undertaken by EAP students.

Fluency in the language of the host country and a broad knowledge of the host country are major qualifications. Tenured faculty members of the Academic Senate, including lecturers with security of employment, and emeriti faculty, may apply. In Meiji Gakuin, Japan, the visiting UC professor is required to teach one course.

Regular two-year appointments, for the term July 1, 2000, through June 30, 2002, are available in France (Bordeaux/Toulouse center and Lyon/Grenoble center); Germany; India; Israel; and Spain (Barcelona center and Madrid center).

A one year appointment is available in Russia, with residency from August through December 2000.

Semester appointments are available in Japan (Meiji-Gakuin) and Vietnam.

In Japan, a one-semester nomination will be made to Meiji Gakuin University for a visiting UC professor who will also oversee students in the spring-semester Global Security and Development Program from April through July 2000. In Vietnam, a one-semester appointment will be made from August 1 through mid-December 2000.
