Landmark women's studies program turns 25 this year
One of the country's most highly regarded and long-standing women's studies departments
turns 25 this year. The UCSC program began with a single class in 1971. The following
year some 700 students petitioned the administration to establish a full-fledged
program and, in the spring of 1975, the first degrees in women's studies were conferred.
At that time, UCSC was one of the few schools in the country to offer a major in
the subject. (More)
