May l9, 2003 More News Reminder: Staff forum and staff appreciation breakfast this week Chancellor Greenwood will hold two campuswide staff events this week, the staff forum on Monday, May 19, and the annual staff appreciation breakfast on Wednesday, May 21. Greenwood will address a range of issues, including the budget, at her May 19 spring forum with staff from 12:30 to 1:40 p.m. at Earth & Marine Sciences Room B206. Pancakes and Jazz with M.R.C., the annual free staff appreciation breakfast with the chancellor, will be served from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on May 21 at Stevenson Dining Hall. to present their work on May 29
Undergraduate researchers from the Division of Physical and Biological
Sciences and the Baskin School of Engineering will present their findings
in the sixth annual Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium on Thursday,
May 29. The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Thimann Courtyard (between
Thimann Labs and Thimann Lecture Hall). "There has been an overwhelming response this year, with over 60 posters and 70 student presenters expected at the symposium," said Marlene Robinson, curriculum and outreach coordinator for the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences. "This is a reflection of the outstanding research opportunities
that our undergraduates are engaged in, as well as the excellence in mentoring
from our faculty," Robinson said. Lecturer Emeritus George
Hitchcock to read from his new book George P. Hitchcock, lecturer emeritus in creative writing and literature,
will read from his new book, One Man Boat: A George Hitchcock Reader,
on May 27 at 6 p.m. in the McHenry Library foyer. Hitchcock is the former
editor of kayak, a literary journal that has influenced two generations
of American writers. His new book is an eclectic collection of poems,
plays, short stories, candid interviews, reviews, and essays, that also
includes his testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee,
reprinted from the Congressional Record. A reception will follow in the library foyer. This event is free and

to encourage the campus community to pursue a healthier lifestyle. From
osteoporosis screening, to classes in yoga, aqua aerobics, and healthy
cooking, to the ever popular Prediction Walk/Run relay, the week has something

with legislators on the Master Plan for Higher Education Members of the campus community, particularly students and parents, are
invited to log on for an online dialogue with legislators and education
policy experts about legislation affecting the state's Master Plan for
Higher Education. There is a wide window of opportunity to join the discussion. The dialogue
will be from May 19 through May 23 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Helpful documents

for more information and to register. The Recreation Department is offering a class in making sensational sushi on May 31 from noon to 3 p.m. in the OPERS Conference Room, East Field House. Department web site. AHR offers information sessions for assistant professors Academic Human Resources will hold information sessions for assistant
professors on Tuesday, May 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday, May
21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Both meetings will take place in Room 325, McHenry
