UC SANTA CRUZ CHANCELLOR HOSTS INTERVIEW PROGRAMS ON UCTV
LA JOLLA, CA, April 8, 2003--University of California Television (UCTV)
and UC Santa Cruz present "Conversations with the Chancellor," a one-hour
interview program hosted by UC Santa Cruz Chancellor M. R. C. Greenwood. Each program
welcomes a prestigious guest and, through interview and discussion, reveals fascinating
insights into today's most relevant issues.
The first edition of "Conversations with the Chancellor" features President Emeritus of the Carnegie Corporation, David Hamburg, and Chancellor Greenwood as they examine deadly conflict in the 21st century. The discussion centers on civil and ethnic wars, weapons of mass destruction, and what universities are doing to promote awareness of these issues. This installment airs on Channel 25 (AT&T/Comcast) on Wednesday, April 16, at noon; Friday, April 18, at 8 a.m.; and Sunday, April 20, at 9 p.m.
The following week, Chancellor Greenwood meets with Florence Haseltine, Director of the Center for Population Research at the National Institutes of Health. This discussion focuses on women's reproductive health as well as gender differences and strides made in healthcare over the past 20 years. Santa Cruz residents can watch this edition on Thursday, April 24, at 8 a.m.; Friday, April 25, at 5 a.m.; and Sunday, April 27, at 9 p.m. on AT&T/Comcast Channel 25.
Chancellor Greenwood is an authority on science and higher education policy, having served in a number of national leadership positions, including an appointment as Associate Director for Science at the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in the Executive Office of the President of the United States and election to the office of President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and she served on the Academy's Committee on Science and Technology for Countering Terrorism, which recently released the report, "Making the Nation Safer: The Role of Science and Technology in Countering Terrorism."
