cookbook by UCSC alums and staff
Improvisation sits at the heart of hearth cooking, says William Rubel, a UCSC alumnus and author of The Magic of Fire, a new book about food created on an open fire. Grilling, frying, roasting, baking--you can do it all on the home hearth with no specialized equipment, says Rubel. His cookbook includes 100 recipes for everything from beverages to pot roast to breads and desserts. Rubel will be talking about his book at the Main Branch of the Santa Cruz Public Library on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. The book's designer, Jim MacKenzie, publications' director in University Relations, will be on hand for the presentation along with the book's illustrator, Ian Everard, a 1990 graduate of the Science Communication Program. The Magic of Fire includes over 100 of Everard's illustrations. The talk is sponsored jointly by the Friends of the UCSC Library and
the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Library. The Main Branch of the Santa
Cruz Public Library is located at 224 Church Street in downtown Santa
Cruz. For more information, call (831) 459-5870. Preparation work under way for new stop light Currents provides regular updates on construction projects that have an impact on campus transportation and parking. Construction update story For more information, visit the Transportation
