UCSC'S Class of 2002 commencement exercises begin Friday, June 7
A number of graduation celebrations, the first of which starts a day earlier, are also planned
UCSC's class of 2002 will participate in commencement exercises on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 7-9. Approximately 1,900 (1,896) students are candidates this spring for bachelor of arts, music, or science degrees; 58 are to receive master of arts or science degrees; and 167 are candidates for doctorates. A small number of students will receive graduate certificates.

Each of UCSC's nine colleges will hold commencement exercises. The Graduate Division and Jack Baskin School of Engineering will also host commencement exercises.
In addition, a number of ceremonies are planned to honor graduates. In the summer, the Graduate Program in Education will also hold commencement exercises for 117 students who will be awarded master of arts degrees. That ceremony will take place on July 19 at 10 a.m. in the Upper Quarry Amphitheater.
The following is the schedule for commencement exercises at UCSC on June 7-9:
Friday, June 7:
Commencement: Graduate Division commencement ceremonies. The keynote speaker
will be Vice Chancellor and Graduate Dean Claudia Mitchell-Kernan of UCLA. 5 p.m.

Saturday, June 8:
Commencement: Merrill College commencement ceremonies. The keynote speaker will

Commencement: Porter College commencement ceremonies. The keynote speakers
will be UCSC professor of music Sherwood Dudley and UCSC lecturer in theater arts

Commencement: Stevenson College commencement ceremonies. The keynote speaker

Keynote speaker will be Robert J. T. Morris, director of the Almaden Research Center

Ceremony: Rainbow Ceremony honoring UCSC's Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, and Ally
