President Yudof announces furlough proposal

July 10, 2009

Dear Colleagues, Today, in a letter and video to all UC faculty and academic and staff employees, President Mark Yudof outlines the proposals for budget reduction strategies — including salary reductions or furloughs — that will be presented to the Board of Regents at its meeting next week. I encourage you to review his comments that can be found at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/budget/. This morning at 9:30, President Yudof joined Russell Gould, chair of the Board of Regents; Mary Croughan, chair of the systemwide Academic Senate; and Bill Johansen, current Staff Advisor to the Regents; at a news conference in Oakland to describe the package of proposed fiscal measures the Regents will consider at their July 14-16 meeting. I thank you again for your dedication and for your many thoughtful comments and suggestions as this difficult process moves forward. Remember, you can find the latest budget-related information at www.ucsc.edu/budget_update. Sincerely, George Blumenthal Chancellor
