Units
Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Donna Murphy, the University Relations Division at the University of California, Santa Cruz, is comprised of six units and many related activities. (Division org chart)
Development, led by Associate Vice Chancellor Jennifer Svihus, raises funds to support campus priorities, people and programs. It raises money for the campus' general funds as well as for special funds such as scholarships and the Chancellor's Fund. Activities include donor cultivation, prospect research, annual giving, gift administration, stewardship, major giving, planned giving, and targeted campaigns. This unit is planning on launching a $100-$200 million comprehensive campaign in the next two years. (Unit org chart)
Public Affairs, led by Associate Vice Chancellor Barry Shiller, promotes a broad understanding of and appreciation for the academic programs and public service projects of UCSC. Activities include coordinating news media coverage for the campus, producing publications (such as the UC Santa Cruz Review and Currents) and marketing documents, and developing UCSC's communication strategies. Alumni Relations, led by Executive Director Carolyn Christopherson, cultivates alumni and potential donors to gain greater support for UCSC. The Alumni Association sponsors an award program for faculty, staff, students and alumni achievements, provides an endowment for visiting professors, distributes scholarship funds, and organizes alumni events. UCSC Foundation Office, housed within the Development Office, supports and coordinates the work of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation by staffing the Board of Trustees and coordinating the volunteer activities of the Foundation, and by linking its trustees to the rest of the campus community.
Government & Community Relations, led by Director Donna Blitzer, is responsible for fostering campus relationships with all aspects of local, state and federal government (elected and appointed officials, agencies, etc.) and serves as a link between the campus and the community. The unit provides support and information to campus officials regarding governmental policies and actions. It also organizes outreach programs and advocacy groups that include faculty, students, alumni, friends groups, and others with special interest in the campus. (Unit org chart)
UR Administration, led by Assistant Vice Chancellor Catherine Faris, manages the administrative, budgetary, financial, human resources, information systems, space planning, and operational aspects of UR. The unit maintains the Alumni, Donors and Friends database that contains approximately 275,000 records of individuals and organizations, a database that also acts as the official database of record for UC Santa Cruz private gift income. The unit also manages the UCSC Ticket Office. (Unit org chart)
Special Events Office, led by Director Jeff Rockwell, sets the stage for introducing supporters, alumni, donors and advocates to UC Santa Cruz's outstanding faculty, students and programs, providing event-planning services and protocol expertise to the entire campus. In addition to serving as a campuswide event and protocol consultant, the SEO produces more than 125 events on- and off-campus annually. (Unit org chart)
