Responsibilities

In addition to being responsible for the day-to-day academic and administrative operations of UCSC, David Kliger, the Campus Provost and
Executive Vice Chancellor, provides administrative leadership in long-term planning for the campus community, oversees UCSC's budget, and advises the Chancellor on all campus issues.

The office has both administrative and academic functions. In his administrative role, Executive Vice Chancellor Kliger directs all of UCSC's operations, including allocations of campus finances (which are currently over $300 million), policy development, and preparation of future budgets, both annual and long-term. Offices which report to him in this capacity include Student Affairs, Business and Administrative Services, Planning and Budget, and University Relations.

As Campus Provost, Kliger is responsible for academic leadership of UCSC. Working with faculty and senior staff, he directs the planning, coordination, and implementation of academic programs, and is also the liaison with both UCSC's Academic Senate and the Office of the President of the University of California.

Reporting to Campus Provost Kliger are the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education; the Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies; the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs; the Vice Chancellor for Research; the Assistant Chancellor for Human Resources; and the Deans for each of the academic divisions on campus (Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering, and Physical & Biological Sciences). Kliger's other responsibilities include the University Library and the University Extension and Summer Session.
