Leadership Team
Each Deans of UCSC’s five academic divisions and the Baskin School of Engineering plays a key role by providing academic leadership to their faculty, divisional planning and strategy, budget development and fund raising, academic recruitment and representation of divisional issues to campus administration. The Division of Graduate Studies supports the deans in their work through management of the graduate admission process and support for graduate programs.
A College Provost, the academic head of college faculty, leads each of UCSC’s ten colleges. Provosts work in partnership with at least one Academic Dean under the leadership of the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education.
The Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, provides leadership for a diverse array of programs and services to ensure the enrollment, retention, and graduation of a diverse undergraduate student body. Through the campus’s unique college system, Student Affairs creates unique communities that help students foster their social, cultural, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
The University Librarian manages a broad array of library services for the campus, including reference services, special collections and archives, collection planning, article databases and more. Library services are located in McHenry Library and the Science and Engineering Library, and are available across other University libraries through the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery program.
Components of UCSC’s research administration – opportunities, seed funding, policy and procedures, cost sharing, sponsored projects, and intellectual property – are coordinated under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Research.
The Vice Chancellor, Planning and Budget, leads efforts in the areas of academic, capital, enrollment, institutional, and financial planning, policy analysis, and fiscal administration. In this capacity, the unit develops and maintains relevant databases, provides analyses of policies and programs, assists campus decision-makers as they determine campus priorities, and helps develop strategies designed to achieve these priorities
The Vice Chancellor, Information Technology, is responsible for aligning campus information technology capabilities to the core research, instruction, and public service goals of UCSC. From basic IT infrastructure – such as telephone and network services – to services that enhance the delivery of instruction, the IT division focuses on making technology available to support the campus in the achievement of its goals.
The Vice Chancellor, Business and Administrative Services, provides leadership and strategy for managing the campus’s natural and built environments, providing business-related internal controls, managing life-safety services, and offering core business services. The BAS division is consistently engaged in the practice of aligning services with campus academic priorities, reducing risk, and sustaining the extraordinary environment on campus.
University Relations builds enduring relationships, resources, and understanding that enable UC Santa Cruz to extend the impact of its research and instructional efforts. University Relations works closely with trustees of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, the Alumni Council, and other support groups of the University. University Relations also supports public service and communication efforts on behalf of campus programs, services, and activities.
The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs is among the principal academic advisors to the Campus Provost, and is responsible for campus academic administration, including coordination and implementation of campus academic planning, review of academic programs, resource allocation, and academic personnel processes.
The Vice Provost for Silicon Valley Initiatives leads UCSC’s partnerships in the Silicon Valley. The Vice Provost oversees the conception, development, and implementation of programs that extend UCSC’s presence in Silicon Valley.
